Santiago returns to Puerto Rico

The Arecibo Capitanes have confirmed the signing of the star center of the National Team of Puerto Rico, Daniel "Danny" Santiago, for the 2010 season.


The hiring came in the evening of Saturday, April 17, 2010, which incidentally was the deadline for new contracts in the offices of the National Superior Basketball League. In fact, the contract has already been filed in the offices of BSN. Santiago's signature means for Arecibo Capitanes, the fourth member of our National Team who joins the team of the Villa del Capitán Correa this year.

The hiring of Danny Santiago complete the strengthen of exceptional frontline of the the team and once again reaffirms the commitment of the Administration of the Capitanes with their people. The management team was committed to bringing the people of Arecibo, the best native talent available for the enjoyment of their fans and they have accomplished. Now, they reaffirm the slogan of the start of the season, to the reconquest of the BSN Championship. Santiago reaches Puerto Rico on Friday, April 23 and will be playing at the Coliseum Manuel "Petaca" Iguina of Arecibo next Tuesday, April 27, 2010.

Danny Santiago, was born in June 1976, but it was not until in 1996 that he played for the first time in Puerto Rico. In the National Superior Basketball  League he has seen action in 5 seasons with the team for Bayamón, where he averaged 8.2 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per challenge.

At college in the United States, he studied at the University of New Mexico and finished his studies at the University of St. Vincent, where he was named Player of the Year in 1998. From here goes to the NBA, where in 2000 he signed as a free agent by the Phoenix Suns for two years, then signed for two additional seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks. Santiago saw action in the NBA in 122 games and averaged 3.4 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. It also has an extensive international experience that includes a final and a silver medal in the World Under 22 Tournement. Also has experiencie in Pre Worlds, World Cups, Pre Olympics, Olympics, Pan American Games, and Centrobaskets Tournaments. Also has seen actionEurope in the Italian League in Varese, winning the League Championship in 2000 and later participated in the Lottomatica in Rome, then in Spain with Unicaja Malaga and Regal FC Barcelona where he also won two League Championship ACB (The Hoop : actually it's one cup and one league). This year saw action in the Turkish League with the team Efes Pilsen in Istanbul.
